Zip your mouth, says Sridevi to plastic surgery rumour-mongers

Zip your mouth, says Sridevi to plastic surgery rumour-mongers Zip your mouth, says Sridevi to plastic surgery rumour-mongersFor all women who’re 40 and above, Sridevi has a message: Look after yourself and do what makes you desirable. Work out, eat right, be focused and be happy. You should also be in love. That makes you radiant. About to return to the big screen after a 15-year focus on home and family, Bollywood’s original queen bee should be out there promoting her comeback movie, R Balki’s English Vinglish. But she leaves the hype to the producers, preferring, instead, to talk only to people she trusts, just as she did in the ’80s.

Dressed in simple black slacks and a white top, sans make-up, Sridevi chats about her film, life and how she manages to look so young.

All set for your comeback?
I am so glad to be here at a time when cinema is going through an exciting phase. It’s not just stars pulling in the crowds. The script has also become a star! Look at Kahaani and The Dirty Picture (2011). I would love to do more films after English Vinglish, if people accept it.

You’ve always had offers for a comeback film. Why did you choose to work with Balki?
I love his previous work, Cheeni Kum (2007) and Paa (2009). Also, the subject of English Vinglish is universally appealing. After watching this film, men will never take their wives for granted (laughs). READMORE: Best thespian winners to gift at Oscars

Dilip Kumar gets candid on 90th birthday

Bollywood stalwart Dilip Kumar turns 90 today. And he looks back at his life with a sense of satisfaction and some surprise at certain twists and turns to an otherwise normal, serene life. He gets candid about life on his big day.

You turn 90 on December 11. 90 is just a number especially when one considers a life as well-lived as yours. Sir, as you look back what do you think about the 90 years of your life?
I can look back at my life with a sense of satisfaction and some surprise at certain events that have added the twists and turns to an otherwise normal, serene life.

Dilip Saab, in the 90 years which events would you regard as the greatest events and milestones in your astounding life?
My entry into the profession of acting, which was most unexpected. My marriage to a beautiful girl years younger to me, with whom I had declined to co-star because she was too young to be my leading-lady, my decision to challenge myself by switching over to comedy when I was being hailed for my intense tragic roles that had evoked public esteem and adulation.

Every actor wants to be like you. You have defined fine and brilliant acting for 6 decades. You have spawned generations of admirers from Mr Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan. How do you evaluate your own contribution as an actor?
I have seriously pondered over this because the question has been put to me so many times. I guess it is a normal instinct to follow an example if you are drawn to it for whatever attributes you admire in that example. An actor should possess a strong instinct, besides a mind of his own and a striking personality. He should be able to absorb the positive and delete the negative from the influences that are bound to crowd his mind. The mind has to be respected and obeyed when it tells you to accept or reject an influence.

What qualities should an actor cultivate?
It is not for me to generalise on the dos and don’ts. Every actor I watched in my formative years had his own individualistic qualities and assets.  Readmore: Kim Kardashian makes another bid to finish wedding

You can call me moody or weird: Manisha Koirala

So many questions, so little time, and in a rare scenario I’m late for a meeting with Manish Koirala. Yes, she’s been waiting for me since fifteen minutes. Her P.R. sends me a couple of texts and then calls me. My rickshaw driver and I battle the cows, dogs, and the many hindrances in our way.

It was 1942 A Love Story when I saw Koirala on the big screen. The year after I recall buying the ticket in black worth Rs. 500 for Bombay. Yes, I was a fan. It’s 2012 now and while many female celebrities complain that their careers begin to stagnate once they reach a certain age, Manisha is perhaps the only one who can boast of living life in reverse. She was seen last year in Onir’s I AM and in a few days will be seen in RGV’s Bhoot 2. Experience has taught the star to be more appreciative of what she has and, at the same time, to be realistic about her life. Because of this, she can now acknowledge without being ashamed that her career is neither where sheâ??d want it to be nor how sheâ??d deserve. But that’s Koirala. She is upfront and I like that about her. I reach her apartment somewhere on floor fifteen if I’m not mistaken. The door is open. I am welcomed by the P.R. and ask her in a breathless tone, â??Where is Manisha?â? A quick eye gesture, I turn and to my horror, Manisha is sitting patiently on my right and sports a smile. That’s like a scene directly lifted from any RGV horror movie. I couldn’t take my eyes off her. She is gorgeous. It was the first time I met her in flesh. Took me a few seconds to recap the magic this Screen Goddess has created on me since 1994. There was a mix of childlike intensity and adult passion in the way she was expressing her fondness for cinema that only goes to show that she’s far from calling it quits. Readmore: Click

I am paranoid about switching on the TV: Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan says he’s sick of controversies. So much so that the 47-year-old actor, who was in Delhi on Thursday, reveals that he’s decided to stay away from reading or watching news. Here’s more of SRK’s plainspeak.

How do you deal with never-ending controversies, be it an article you wrote or link-up rumours with Priyanka Chopra?
I am very sensitive about my self-respect, even though it may not come across as such, especially when it comes to how my children and family see me. I get six newspapers at home, including yours, but I don’t read even one of them now. I’ve become scared to open a newspaper to see what’s written about me. I am also paranoid about switching the TV on, as I don’t know what they are going to telecast about me. I am wary of attending press conferences, as I know someone is going to ask something and I am going to say the two words which I hate: ‘No Comments’. At home, we are scared of sitting as a family, watching TV. Many a times, my son, daughter, wife or sister switch off the TV as soon as they see some news related to me, thinking it must be some rubbish. It is sad.

Have you decided that now onwards you’ll talk or tweet only about films as everything else gets sensationalised?
‘Sensationalised’ is an understatement. These days it is actually a cool word. We need to understand what information we are giving out. Will it be sifted and understood correctly? And also, how technological tools like Twitter can be interpreted and misused. Now after this comment, may be, people will say I am anti social media. I am not. We are just over informed. Everybody wants to send the plane in the air without bothering to see if it will land properly or not. It’s unfortunate for people like me who genuinely want to express or have a discussion beyond 140 characters.

Do you think film stars are soft targets for culture terrorism?
Let me say this: If people spend enough time with film stars, they’ll realise we are some of the most secular, the smartest, the brightest, the hardest working brains in the film industry. And right now I am just talking about actors and actresses, not even going to directors and producers who are bigger geniuses. It takes a lot of brains to sing and dance and to make a 100 crore film. Yet we take all this with an attitude ki chalo jo sochna hai soch lo. Readmore; clickhere
